WELCOME ORANGE COUNTY
ABOUT ME
Hello Young Surveyors of Orange County!
My name is Emily Kubisty, and I am your Orange County Regional Director for the California Young Surveyors Network. I am super excited to be a part of the YSN, as surveying has quickly become one of my passions in my life. I started college at San Jose State University in 2018 and stayed bouncing around different majors until Covid hit in 2020, and I moved back home. In 2022, I decided it was time to dive back into my academic journey, which I would pick up at community college. With some encouragement from my dad (Mike Kubisty, PLS 8036) and my brother (Julian Kubisty, LSIT), I decided to enroll in Santiago Canyon College so that I could take Survey 118 and see if maybe surveying was right for me. Turns out it was! Incredible professors like Bryan Mundia and Mark Counts inspired me, encouraged me, and supported me through the beginning of my career.
I’ve been working at Michael Baker International for two years now as a Mapping Technician. I get my feet wet in the field every once in a while, but I enjoy drafting and legal sides of surveying. I will be sitting for my FS Exam this year.
Mariam Youssef is my ‘right-hand-man’ as I start my journey as your OC YSN Regional Director, and I can’t express how grateful I am for her! She’s currently our social media manager, but since she’s local to OC you’ll be seeing her help me out with events down here and at Cal Poly Pomona.
Calling all ‘seasoned’ surveyors . . . SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS
Mentorship within surveying is important. If you have a story you’d like to share, a problem you’ve solved, or just some good advice, send it here. I will work to put together a column to share with our younger surveyors.
