Land surveying has shaped the world we live in — from mapping continents to marking the boundaries of our communities. It is the foundation of exploration, construction, and discovery, yet it remains an overlooked profession.

The California Young Surveyors Network is launching the Monument the Moon campaign to change that. Our mission is to bring surveying into the global spotlight by achieving something extraordinary: placing the first land survey monument on the lunar surface.

Just as early survey monuments marked humanity’s progress on Earth, a monument on the Moon would stand as a symbol of precision, exploration, and the enduring role of surveyors in every frontier — past, present, and future.

By supporting this campaign, you join a movement led by the next generation of surveyors to honor the profession that makes exploration possible and inspire the surveyors, engineers, and explorers of tomorrow.

The Plan

Every great exploration begins with a first step. Monument the Moon starts here on Earth — through grassroots support and collective action.

Our first milestone is building awareness. With your participation, we will:

  1. Grow a community of supporters through sign-ups and social media engagement.

  2. Use our Change.org petition to demonstrate broad public support for placing the first land survey monument on the lunar surface.

  3. Amplify our message by sharing stories of surveying’s role in exploration and inspiring the next generation of surveyors, engineers, and space pioneers.

As momentum builds, this campaign will evolve from awareness to influence — connecting with industry leaders, educators, and agency leaders. But it all begins with you. Grassroots participation is the foundation of our mission to spotlight surveying and make history on the Moon.
