FIELD NOTES
PRELIMINARY OATH OF REGIONAL DIRECTOR.
—————————————
I, Parker Phillips, under the special instructions of the California Young Surveyors Network, do solemnly swear that I will well and truly perform the duties of San Diego Chapter Regional Director, according to instructions given me, and to the best of my skill and ability, in the educational sessions, social networking events, and hikes, in all of the townships, in all of the ranges, San Bernardino Base and Meridian.
REGIONAL DIRECTOR NOTE.
—————————————
Hey, San Diego! It’s a pleasure to meet you. As your Regional Director, it is my honor to lead an extraordinary chapter of people in the best place in the world. What I’ve learned in my three years in the land surveying space is that San Diego has a TON of knowledge and we face a TON of challenges. My role as Regional Director is to connect the leaders of the next generation of land surveyors, photogrammetrists, technicians, and all other associated fields to further educate and protect our profession.
In the San Diego Chapter, you can expect exactly that.
WHAT TO EXPECT.
—————————————
Every month, the San Diego YSN will host events for the young surveying professional. Join your fellow members and supporting members in:
SOCIAL NETWORKING EVENTS
Land surveyors work hard - so we like to have fun! You’ll find us playing cornhole, hiking (more on that in a little bit), enjoying a meal together, or having happy hours at your favorite bars.
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
The precision and quality of our work cannot be matched by other professions. You’ll find us hosting Quality Workshops for legal description writing, map drafting, and discussions on boundary analysis.
LSIT AND PLS PREP
Pursuing your license is an important step in every land surveyor’s career. We will connect members with mentors in the industry and an ever-growing library of tools to pass the exams and obtain licensure.
STORYTELLING SERIES
Beyond being geodesists, measurers, and cartographers - land surveyors are historians and storytellers. You’ll find us hosting Unwritten Records, a fireside-chat series of the stories that recorded maps don’t tell about the land.
TRAVERSING TRAILS
Our profession has us all over Southern California and beyond. Share in your fellow member’s favorite hikes and track your miles (in surveyor’s chains, of course), all in preparation for the yearly hike of the San Bernardino Initial Point.

Initiatives
Join the CA YSN monthly in their mission to create a living library of the actions that shaped land surveying in California. Hear from industry veterans, state representatives, and peers as they share their career defining stories with the next generation of the profession.
Your sponsorships for Unwritten Records go directly to funding and curating an ever-expanding library of books, private records, and verbal testimonies for the CA YSN and land surveyors everywhere. The CA YSN has a goal to procure, restore, and distribute the surveys and testimonies of land surveyors before they are lost in time.
